Week 2 Reflection

This weeks assignment seemed more difficult than it really was. I have created podcast/screencast before in the classroom. These are very teaching tools. My activity ran a couple of minutes over, because i was unable to complete my assignment in 2 minutes or less. Working with my partners was a bit challenging, because we are all traveling this week. I did not like the script portion of this assignment. I can understand the need for it, in regards to planning, but I find that when you are teaching someone something, it is very difficult to read from a script. For example, I wrote the script prior to doing the screen cast, and I constantly had to adjust it. I prefer to talk as I go, this allows me to give a more hands on approach, and it allows the view/listener a step by step learning experience. That is my opinion.

EDLD Week one

The digital story activity is something I am very familiar with. I have been using photo story and iMovie in my classroom for the past year. The software presents students with a different way to present information or tell a story. When I was in the classroom, I would have student introduce themselves via photo story. This was a great way to get to know your students. But the best part, was getting shy students to present. They were able to express themselves in a way that did not require them to be so uncomfortable. Media is a great way for students to express themselves. (Edutopia. 2002) I honestly believe that teacher have to tap into this resource to engage students in meaningful activities.
