Action Research
Action research can be a very useful tool as an administrator. The purpose of Action research is to look at topics that directly effect the researcher. This is important because it makes the topic relevant to the researcher. As educators, we know that relevance is one of the key factors to learning. Action research forces the researcher to reflect on the strategies that are in place, and to evaluate their effectiveness. If we were teaching a class, this would be a high order thinking activity, which is a high yield technique. By implementing action research on our campus, we will have our teachers thinking reflectively on their instruction. It will also provide the researcher with opportunities to advance their skills through a more indept understanding, and it also will facilitate positive changes. As an administrator of a failing school, action research is what is needed to bring that school up to par. A leader would have to go into a failing school, research success stories that are similar to that, and put a plan of action together. He must implement this process throughout the school by using effective staff development on how to appropriately research. Again educators talk a lot about high yield strategies for students, Action research is a High yield strategy for educators.

I agree that the research should be relevant and that is the key. I also agree that reflecting on the strategies effectiveness helps to make changes in schools.
