Transfer Theory

In this week’s video, Dr. Arterbury explained the transfer theory. In summary, the transfer theory deals with using acquired skills to do a new job. In other words, the things that a person does in one job should carry over into a newer job. A good example of this would be leadership. Leadership skill transfer from one job to another. Even though the job may present new challenges, the leadership aspect of it still requires some of the same skill sets that were applied in a previous job. It is important to have prior administrative training to successfully complete the Superintendent certification. The skills and knowledge that I have acquired through my administrative experience will provide a solid foundation in evaluating situations that a superintendent may encounter. Even though a lot of my training deals with campus based decision making, I can use this experience to apply it to district wide decision making. The transfer theory makes a lot of sense, because people without administrative experience, will not have a sound foundation to make district wide decisions.
