Teaching and Learning

As a teacher, I feel very responsible for teaching and learning, especially when it comes to the STaR Chart and Texas Long Range planning. To have students actively learning with technology, we as teachers must be actively engaging students in lesson where the best technology principals are being implemented. At my campus Langham Creek, in 2006-2007 we started with an advanced tech STaR classification. In the following two school years we have dropped to a developing tech STaR classification. The drop in classification, I believe is due to the lack of improvement on the previous year. I feel that the teachers may have got comfortable with their current level, and did not improve on the previous years gains. This problem is not something unique to my campus. According to the statewide summary when it comes to teaching and learnign 70% of campuses are in the developing tech classifications.

The shift in the use of technology in the classroom has been progressive, but I think more staff development is needed to make the necessary strides for improvement. As we look at the Campus State Wide Summary there is only 0.9% of campuses reaching the Target Tech classification. For our school to reach the goal of meeting all of the Technology TEKS, we will need to implement more staff development on our campus. It is our responsibility to improve on our technology at our school. We need to prepare our students for the 21st century.
